Cuban Oregano

Cuban oregano (Plectrathus amboinicus) has a bit of an identity problem -- it has too many names! This aromatic herb has a number of aliases, including Spanish thyme, Indian borage, Mexican thyme, and Puerto Rican oregano brujo, to name a few.

No matter what you call it, Cuban Oregano is highly regarded for its medicinal properties. It has been known to alleviate coughs, sore throats and nasal congestion, at the same time fight off infection and boost the immune system.  While it's most commonly prepared as a tea, the more adventurous fry this powerfully-flavored herb and eat it to avail of its numerous health benefits.

Have a doctor on permanent house call by growing your own Cuban Oregano! You'll want to water your Cuban oregano sparingly and keep it in a well-drained, semi-shaded area for best results. Potted in Enrico Soil-less Potting Mix, your plant will get all the nutrition it needs to give you a healthier lifestyle.  Pictured here is the variegated variety which also looks very handsome in hanging baskets.

West Indian Lemongrass

Truly a taste of Asia, lemongrass is a common ingredient in many Asian recipes. The West Indian Lemongrass (locally known as Tanglad), with its strong lemony flavor, is the most popular lemongrass variety for cooking. Its prized scent in dishes never fails to tempt the appetite – and make you crave for more!! The leaf-base gives a wonderful and tasty flavor to oriental soup, seafood, and poultry. It is also yummy in curries and sauces, and surprisingly makes a pleasant tea.

Harvesting them fresh is the best way to flavor your home-cooked meals. Don’t you just wish you have one live plant at home?

This aromatic herb is very easy to care for and it grows in dense clumps forming a bulb at the base and hollow, cane-like stems. They grow about 5-10 feet tall, and grow in moist, fertile soil in full sun and can tolerate light shade. For your potted lemongrass, use ENRICO Soil-less Potting Mix in your pots to ensure healthier and more flavorful harvests.
